Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about Tripgen: what it costs, how it handles your vehicle, dogs, ferries, hook-up, refunds and the things motorhomers actually ask before booking a trip.

What is Tripgen?

Tripgen is a trip-planning service built for motorhome and caravan owners travelling in Europe. You complete a short questionnaire covering your vehicle dimensions, travel dates, route preferences and the facilities you need. Tripgen finds suitable overnight stops, cross-references them with current reviews and opening data, calculates a route that accounts for your vehicle's size and weight, and assembles everything into a personalised dashboard you can access on any device. Most plans are ready within a few minutes. Complex routes occasionally take a little longer.

How much does Tripgen cost?

UK trips cost £19.99. EU trips up to 10 nights cost £24.99. EU trips over 10 nights cost £29.99. There are no subscriptions and no hidden extras. During early access, the NC500 demo plans are free, so you can see exactly what a finished plan looks like before you commit.

For context, a typical European motorhome route involves many hours of manual campsite research, route checking and crossing logistics. Tripgen delivers the same output in minutes.

What does my dashboard look like?

Your dashboard shows your complete itinerary laid out day by day, with campsite options, driving legs, route notes, crossing information and cost summaries. It works on desktop, tablet and phone.

Campsite card with photos, star rating and reviews
Trip overview showing destination, dates and budget
Route map and trip budget estimate

Campsite options with real photos, ratings and reviews from other motorhomers

Do I need to re-enter my route into my sat nav?

No. Every leg in your dashboard includes a one-tap link to open it directly in Waze or Google Maps. Pick your campsite, tap the link, and your navigation app opens with the destination already set.

What is your refund policy?

If you have not yet opened your dashboard, you can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase. If you have opened it, refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis within the same 14-day window. Your statutory rights under UK consumer law always apply. Contact support by email or WhatsApp to request a refund.

What support is available?

You can reach Dan by email or WhatsApp. There is also an in-dashboard feedback option and an AI-powered chat assistant on every page of the site. The chat assistant handles most common questions quickly. For anything specific to your plan or your order, email or WhatsApp will get you to a person. Response times may vary because this is a small operation, but you are always reaching a real person.

Where do the campsite suggestions come from?

Overnight stops are drawn from a large European campsite database and cross-referenced with current reviews, photos and opening status from independent sources. Every suggestion in your plan is verified as open and accessible for the kind of vehicle you have described. The selection takes into account campsite facilities, the driving distance from your previous stop, and whether the site can physically accommodate your vehicle's dimensions.

Does Tripgen route for my vehicle's height, weight and length?

Yes. The vehicle dimensions you enter in the questionnaire are passed to a professional-grade routing engine designed for large vehicles. It excludes roads with known height, weight and width restrictions, including low bridges and weight-limited routes. That said, road conditions and restrictions can change. Always carry your vehicle documents and use a motorhome-specific satnav as your live navigation tool. Tripgen's route is your strategic plan, not a replacement for a device that sees the road in real time. The final authority is always the sign in front of you.

What types of overnight stop are included?

Plans can include commercial campsites with full facilities, aires (designated motorhome stopovers common in France), and Stellplatz sites (the German and Austrian equivalent). Many aires and Stellplatz sites are free or very low cost.

Brit Stops are a UK-only network of pubs and farms offering free overnight stops. As Tripgen plans European routes, they sit outside the current scope rather than being an oversight.

How does Tripgen handle electric hook-up?

You specify in the questionnaire whether you need electric hook-up, and the system filters results to show only sites that offer it. Campsite facilities can change between seasons, so it is always worth confirming directly with a site if EHU is essential for your trip.

Should I take the ferry or the Eurotunnel?

Tripgen supports both. It handles the Eurotunnel shuttle and covers 11 UK departure ports for ferry crossings. The right choice depends on your route, your budget and your preference. Both options are built into your plan's routing, timings and crossing costs.

Can Tripgen plan a trip with my dog?

Travelling with a dog into Europe involves an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by an Official Veterinarian no more than 10 days before travel. That is a legal requirement and the window is strict.

Tapeworm treatment is required for dogs entering certain countries, including Finland, Norway, Ireland and Malta. The treatment must be administered by a vet within a specific window before entry, typically 24 to 120 hours, and the timing must be documented in the pet passport or health certificate. Some countries also have breed restrictions or additional documentation requirements, so if your route passes through multiple countries, the requirements can vary along the way.

Tripgen flags the country-specific rules relevant to your itinerary. It does not replace veterinary advice. Contact your vet well in advance of travel, particularly if your route includes countries with tapeworm requirements, since the treatment window ties directly to your departure date.

Does Tripgen calculate toll and vignette costs?

Toll information is included in your itinerary so you can see what to expect day by day. Where a country requires a vignette, that is flagged in your plan. Actual toll costs can vary depending on vehicle class and payment method, so treat the figures as a planning guide and verify specifics closer to your travel date.

Does Tripgen explain wild camping rules?

Wild camping rules vary significantly across Europe, from broadly tolerated in Scandinavian countries under right-to-roam principles to firmly prohibited in others. Your dashboard includes a country-by-country summary of the rules relevant to your route. The rules are genuinely complex and can differ between regions within the same country, so treat the summary as a reliable starting point and check for recent updates before you travel.

Does Tripgen plan water and waste stops?

Not yet. Water and waste stop planning is on the development roadmap but is not a current feature. Most campsites and many aires in your plan include these facilities. Apps like Park4Night and Campercontact are good supplements while you are on the road.

How long is my plan valid for?

Your dashboard does not expire. Once it is built and you have access, it is yours to revisit whenever you like. Campsite information is current at generation time. Treat the plan as a reliable framework and confirm bookings or availability closer to your travel date.

Can I edit my plan after I have paid?

Tripgen does not currently have a self-serve edit tool. If you need changes to your route, dates or preferences, contact Dan by email or WhatsApp and he will look at what can be done. Plans can be regenerated for most changes.

Is Tripgen a good fit for a first European trip?

It is a particularly good fit. A first European motorhome trip involves a lot of unknowns: campsite quality, overnight stop rules, pet entry requirements, bridge clearances, ferry timing. Tripgen builds a structured, verified starting point that removes most of that groundwork, so you can spend your planning time on the enjoyable decisions rather than the research.

The plan handles the logistics. The trip itself still requires a driver who is confident on the road and willing to read up on the countries they are visiting.

Which satnav should I use alongside Tripgen?

For live turn-by-turn navigation, use a dedicated motorhome satnav app or device that accepts your vehicle profile, including height, weight and length. Standard car sat navs and phone navigation apps do not apply vehicle profiles in the same way. Tripgen handles the strategic route and campsite planning. Your satnav handles the real-time driving. They are complementary tools.

What happens if Tripgen cannot plan my trip?

If planning does not succeed on the first attempt, the system retries automatically. If it still cannot produce a usable plan, Dan is notified and will investigate. He will either resolve it or arrange a full refund. Either way, you get a result.

How far in advance should I plan a peak-season trip?

For July and August travel, popular campsites across France, Italy, Spain and Germany fill up fast. If you are planning a summer trip, ordering your plan by February or March gives you the best chance of booking your preferred sites before they fill. Shoulder seasons are more forgiving.

Is my data safe?

Tripgen collects the information you provide in the questionnaire, along with the basic order, technical and support information needed to run the service. Your data is not sold to marketing lists or shared with third parties for advertising. Full details are in the privacy policy.

Which countries does Tripgen cover?

Tripgen currently covers 22 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The full list is shown during the booking process. If you are not sure whether a specific destination is covered, get in touch before ordering.

Is payment secure?

Payments are processed through Stripe, a widely used payment provider. Tripgen does not store your card details. The checkout uses standard encryption. If you have a question about a transaction, contact support by email or WhatsApp.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You access your dashboard through a direct link sent after purchase. There is no account to create and no password to remember. Each plan has its own shareable link, so you can forward it to a travel companion without either of you needing to sign up for anything.
